In honor of the Year of the Dragon, Rio Dragão Azul-1 was inspired by the Blue Dragon River in Portugal. The colors and texture used conveys the movement and the strength of a dragon and draws the viewer into the painting. Fallen pine tree branches were use to create texture and flow in the modeling paste.

In honor of the Year of the Dragon, Rio Dragão Azul-2 was inspired by the Blue Dragon River in Portugal. After working on the Wings of Light commision, I had to paint a dragonfly that focused on the beauty of the wings and colors of this wonderful insect. I used interference paint on the wings, so it looks different depending on the angle and light you see it in. I just love how the bright yellow-greens and blues work together on this painting.

Commissioned by a client for their home in Pebble Beach, CA. We started with the colors that would complement their new home, and then played with watercolors to get design ideas that would help me connect with the client and to get a better sense of what they liked. After a few 'studies' (Fissure, Autumn Blues), Ring of Fire emerged from the canvas! Today Ring of Fire hangs proudly over their fireplace!
